Welcome to MIPPS

MIPPs (Managing Impairment in Professional Practice Settings) was a research project that was funded by the Strategic Health Authority, and carried out by the University of Bradford and the University of Huddersfield.

We have a website here: http://www.brad.ac.uk/mipp/

The original project ran from October 2009 to June 2010.  The research was entitled "Disability and Fitness to Practise: a multi site investigation into the application of the Disability Discrimination Act (2005) to health care students in practice settings within the NHS".

The Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PRSBs) that govern health and social care professions within the UK, set clear expectations with regard to the fitness to practise of registrants, which are mirrored in their respective training programmes. The UK Disability Discrimination Act of 2005 (now included within the UK Equality Act 2010)  posed challenges to PRSBs, educators and employers to ensure that people are not excluded from the professions on the basis of disability, and to anticipate the sort of reasonable adjustments that may be needed to facilitate this. The project took a mixed methods approach to exploring the ways in which a balance can be found between these tensions.

This Ning site aims to continue the work of MIPPS to assist anyone who wishes to improve access and equality for disabled people who are or wish to be Healthcare Professionals.

We Hope you find our Ning site useful.

Best wishes
